What exactly is MicroURL?

MicroURL is a versatile platform that gives you all the tools that you need to connect with your audiences and customers, wherever they are.

Our link management lets you harness the power of your links by shortening, sharing, managing, and analyzing links to your content. Millions of links are created every year by our millions of users. Unlike most URL shorteners, we go beyond shortening links. You can:
Customize links
View real-time click data
See referrers and locations

When you create links with MicroURL, you can see when and where your links are clicked, making it easy to identify valuable touchpoints and meet the needs of your customers and your business.

How does it work?

With MicroURL, you can take a long link (aka a destination URL) and shorten it to one that's easier to share. With a paid plan, you can use your own custom domain and a custom back-half to get a unique and branded link. For example:

Long link: https://www.travelweekly.com/colombia/places_to_ visit/2019/09/11/bogota-bus-tour.html
Short link: https://b1z.co/QglpGx
Custom link: https://mcurl.pro/Visit_Colombia

When you create a link with Bitly, clicks on it are redirected to the destination URL you started with. To do this, we issue a 301 redirect, a technique for making a webpage available under many URLs. We don't re-use or modify shortened links, so our redirects are permanent. And these 301 redirects don't affect your website's SEO.

What are some of the best practices for short links?

Keep your custom links short and simple. Avoid random numbers, letters, and special characters. Make sure the custom link is relevant to the destination URL. A link like yourbrand.co/spring-sale-24 is clearer and more likely to get clicks than yourbrand.com/click-here. It's also more specific than yourbrand.co/spring-sale and won't conflict with future campaigns, like for a spring sale in 2025. Be consistent with how you format links, especially with dashes and underscores.

Will the links I create on MicroURL ever expire?

It depends. If you just try us out without signing up, the link will expire in 7 days. If you sign up, your links will be good for 30 days. It is now considered a best practice, and a Microsoft Security Brief recommendeds that URLs include an expiration for security reasons.
